At Supreme Home Care we take recruitment very seriously indeed.
Before we offer a prospective candidate the firm offer of a job we;
- Ask them to complete an application form
- Interview them and ask questions which test their aptitude to be a Carer; can they cook, how would they react in an emergency and how are they going to keep you safe
- Check their work history
- Ask for proof of their identity and if they come from outside the EU we check they have the right permissions to work in this country
- Check if they have a criminal record ( through a Disclosure and Barring Service check)
- Take up written and verbal references
- Check they are physically and mentally fit to work
All new staff complete a full range of training to make sure they know how to look after you and keep you safe.

Once staff have completed their classroom training and we have checked their identity documents, references and criminal record, we arrange for them to shadow an experienced carer or a minimum of 3 shifts. This allows them to meet the clients they will be looking after and get to know the ropes. The experienced carer is expected to observe the new carer and report on their progress before the new carer starts out on their own.
Once the new carer is working alone, they are supervised closely through meetings and spot-checks to ensure they are putting their training into practice. Each member of staff has a Senior Carer who is responsible for their supervision. The Seniors, Jules, our Trainer and Amy, the Care Manager all monitor the new members of staff in their first few weeks, observing their practice and talking to them about their progress, before signing off their induction programme as complete. This usually takes about 4 months.
So it takes a lot of training, hard work and about 4 months to make a SHC Worker!
